"We have found some old photos of aunts and uncles. But nobody is still alive. The oldest photo shows Alex's grandfather Franz Faust born 1872. He was a musician. In the year 1914 he played music with a band in the USA. The photo was made there. The other photo shows son Franz born 1899, he also took part of this USA trip. He was only 15 years old and he never came back to Germany and nobody heared anything about him anymore. Another brother of Franz Faust born 1872, his name was Ludwig Faust born 1884, emigrated to USA, but nobody heared anything about him anymore.""Paula Faust, Alex's mother, was the youngest of 7 brothers and 2 sisters. Nobody is still alive. The last uncle, his name was Otto (Ferdinand Faust's father) died in spring 1992. He was 85 years old."

I got to thinking a bit after I visited with you and we talked families.
You know Rose (Selting Bode) was married before she married John Faust. She
had 6 children with Bode. Like my folks they lived on a place of Grandpa
Selting's. Bode died in NE and she married John and moved to SD. The Bode
boys did not like John at all. Said all he did was sit on a stool and smoke
his pipe and they had to do all the work. When Rose died in 1949 They told
him to pack his suitcase and they brought him to Miller and he lived in an
old hotel the county paid for his care. My brother LaVerne had a dry
cleaners in Miller and he used to pick him up and he road along on his
delivery route. When he got so he could not take care of himself my brother
found a nursing home in Lake Preston, SD and took him there because Miller
did not have one and he was being cared by the county. LaVerne always said
my dad said John never liked to work. The Bode boys absolutely had nothing
to do with him. Ralph Bode lived in Lake Preston but never visited him in
the Nursing home. Family things are always sad.
John married Rosa (Rose) M. Selting daughter of Bernard Selting and Agnes Wintz in Apr 1925 in Raeville, Boone, Nebraska. Rosa was born on 19 Dec 1889 in Alton, Iowa. She died on 18 Apr 1949 in Aberdeen, Brown, South Dakota. She was buried in Polo, Hand, South Dakota.

Records in Catholic Church Lindsay, NE"Columbus Daily Telegram, December 19, 1935 -- Mrs. Peter Ernst Sr, 56, residing at 3704 Seventeenth Street, passed away at 10:20pm (Monday December 16, 1935) at St. Mary's hospital, where she had been for the last two weeks. Her death was due to a complication of diseases. Although she had been ill for the last six months, she was bedfast only during the period she was in the hospital.
As Miss Anna Faust, she was born in January, 1879 in Madison County, near the St. Bernard community.(sic) She was the daughter of Peter Faust and Anna Wiehn. There she grew to womanhood, and was married on January 8, 1901 to Peter Ernst, also of the same neighborhood. They resided on a farm there for about ten years and then moved to Columbus and since that time have resided there.
She is survived by her husband, seven sons, Edward of Auburn, Peter Jr., Matt, Henry, August, Albert and Louis all of Columbus; one daughter, Anna (Mrs. Milton Bartels) of Columbus, her mother Mrs. Mary Faust of Petersburg, seven brothers, John and Joe Faust, residing in South Dakota, Reinhart Faust of Cedar Rapids, Alois and Albert Faust of Petersburg, Tony Faust of Tilden and Ben Faust, residing in Wisconsin and five grandchildren.
The body was taken to the family home from the McKown Funeral Home. Rev. Fr. Salvaroti, pastor, was celebrant at the requiem mass at 9:00am, Thursday at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church, of which she was a member. Burial was made in the Catholic cemetery in Columbus. Pallbearers were Henry Demel, Joe Urban, George Jostes, Walter Rice, Charles Gillette and Milton Miller. The relatives from out of town attending the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ernst of Auburn, Mr. and Mrs. Reinhart Faust, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Faust and Mr. and Mrs Victor Faust of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. John Mannlien and daughter Irene, and Mrs. Leo Hemmer of Petersburg."

She mentioned Reinhard Faust that the folks did not visit much but dad’s sister Anna visited often and she remembered my dad sending a pig home with her by tying its feet together and they took it home in the car. "Peter Ernst was born February 29, 1876 in Holland and it is said he came to America when he was two years old with his uncle. He was the son of John Ernst and Kate Delissen. John and Kate also had a daughter, Anna Elizabeth Ernst, born 6 March 1878 in St. Bernard. Anna Elizabeth married Reinhart Peter Faust 20 September 1900. Reinhart Peter Faust was a brother to Anna Mary Faust.Kate was the daughter of Peter and Ann Elizabeth Delissen who came to Madison County from Holland. Kate also had a brother named William. The parents and William owned farm land just north of St. Bernard, near the Platte County/Madison County line. Peter and Ann Elizabeth Delissen are buried in the St. Bernard cemetery. It is possible that Kate died in childbirth when her daughter was born since the census records show John as a widower and a boarder at various farms in the area. Their children apparently were raised by the grandparents.
John Ernst was the son of Peter Ernst and Louis Warden was born in Holland. John is not listed on the Census for 1885 or 1900 for Platte County.
On June 19, 1884 a marriage record was recorded in Platte County showing that John Ernst, age 29 of Colfax County, Nebraska, place of birth, Holland, father Peter Ernst and mother Louise Warden. The Bride was Ellen McGrabe of Colfax County, born in Ireland, age 25, father Owen McGrabe and mother, Mary Hawes. According to the 1880 census, John would have been born about 1849. "Peter resided at St. Bernard and farmed there and was the head of a thrashing crew. He came to Columbus in 1910 and worked at the Columbus Brick Works as an engineer. He also operated a restaurant on 12th street. AT the time of death he was retired and had been a resident of St. Mary's Hospital for three years before his death. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church. He is buried in the Catholic Cemetery in Columbus next to his wife Anna and his son August (Doc).A marriage license was issued to Mr. Peter Ernst, age 24 and Miss Annie Faust, age 22, on August 28, 1900 in Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska. The license was returned and noted that no ceremony was performed.
On October 8, 1900, a marriage license was issued to Mr. Peter Ernst and Miss Josephine Cook, age 18. Miss Cook was the daughter of John Cook and Lizzie Korth. She was born in Iowa, but resided in Platte County. The license was notated that is was not to be published. The license was returned December 31, 1900, no ceremony performed.
A new license was issued to Mr. Peter Ernst and Miss Annie Faust on December 29, 1900 and the ceremony was perforned on January 1, 1901 at St. Bernard with Mr. John Faust and Miss Amalia Arni as witnesses. The pastor of St. Bernard parish officiated.

Funeral Services to Be Conducted Friday
"Ben J. Faust, 67, died at 9:05 am today at his home at 1408 S. Prospect St. He had been in poor health the past three months.Funeral services will be held at 9 am Friday in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. The Rev. Edwin Knauf will officiate and burial will be made in Hillside cemetery.
The body will repose at the Rembs Funeral Home from this evening to the time of services. The Holy Name Society will participate in the general rosary service at 8:45pm Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Faust was born March 14, 1885, in Bellevue, Ohio, and moved to Nebraska with his parents at an early age. He received his education there and on Feb. 14, 1913 was married there to the former Ann Voskuhl. They came to Marshfield from Nebraska in 1922 and have resided here since that time.
He was employed by the city for abut 25 years, and for the past 18 months served as janitor of the Citizen's National Bank. He was a member of the Holy Name Society.
Mr. Faust is survived by his wife; two sons, Ralph and Harold, Marshfield; four grandchildren; and four brothers, Albert and Alois, Petersburg, Neb.; Tony, Tilton (Tilden), Neb.; and John, Miller, S.D.

OBITUARY - ALBERT FAUST
"Albert August Faust was born September 9, 1887, in Huron County, Ohio to Peter and Mary Faust. He passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital, Omaha, on July 28, 1959.When he was 3 months old the family moved to Humphrey, Nebraska where he grew to manhood. In 1913 Mr. Faust moved to Petersburg, Nebraska where he resided the remainder of his life.
On February 15, 1915, he was united in marriage to Elsie Koch. To this union was born 10 children, 7 sons and 3 daughters. The sons are: Vincent, Ed, and Leo of Petersburg, Ray of Omaha, John of Des Moines Iowa and Danny of Columbus. One son died in infancy. The daughters are Mrs. Harold Morisch (Magdalene) of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, Mrs. George Dreeves (Rose), of Denver, Colorado, and Mrs. Melvin Ruge (Marie) of Norfolk.
Besides his wife and children, he is survived by 28 grandchildren; two brothers, Anton Faust of Norfolk, Neb., and John Faust of Miller, South Dakota. His parents, 4 brothers adn 1 sister preceded in him in death.
Funeral services were held from St. John's Catholic Church in Petersburg, at 9 o'clock Friday, July 31, with Rev. Albert Sudbeck officiating. Interment was at St. John's Cemetery, Petersburg. Pallbearers were Richard Foss, Henry Chavanu, Alphonse Riecks, Jr., Joseph Henn, Jr., Marvin Zabka, and Leon Wiegand.
Relatives attending from a distance besides the children were Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Faust and daughter and Mrs. Kate Faust of Miller, South Dakota. Mrs. Frank Sydlik, Mrs. Lou Gasper and Mrs Mary Werner of St. Edward; Mr. and Mrs. Dan Wiehn and Mrs. Alvin Mooney of Elgin; Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Faust of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Faust, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Flaskamp, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Faust, and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Olk, all of Norfolk; Vic Getsfred of Albion. One son Ray, presently in Greenland, was unable to attend."
